BIOGRAPHY
Roman Lytwyniw is a British/Ukrainian violinist whose compelling, sensitive musicianship is distinguished by a desire to explore the connection between performer, instrument and audience.
Roman formed and led Ensemble7 on an international tour in 2018 with guitarist Miloš Karadaglič, performing for the BBC and Classic FM at Cadogan Hall, Snape Maltings, Dubai Opera House, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival — establishing himself as a leader. He has since been regularly invited to perform as Co-Leader with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, and United Strings of Europe, and has led the Jess Gillam Ensemble on tour.
A passionate chamber musician at heart, Roman has appeared regularly at festivals including Budleigh, Chipping Camden, North Norfolk Chamber Music, Heidelberger Frühling, Resonances and Schiermonikoog. Now building his profile as a solo musician, he gave the UK premiere of Steven Gerber's Three Songs Without Words for the London Sinfonietta, performed Vivaldi's Four Seasons with United Strings of Europe,The Lark Ascending with The Vaughan Williams Singers and continues to give recitals across the U.K. In 2023, Roman was selected as the sole violinist on the International Artist Diploma course at the RNCM, making his debut with the BBC Philharmonic in June performing Glière's Violin Concerto. That same year he released Quay 5 Sessions, an improvised EP with cellist Robert Wheatley.
In 2025/26, Roman toured the UK as "The Fiddler" in the Olivier Award-winning production of Fiddler on the Roof, and arranged a Ukrainian folk song for the Choose Love 10th Anniversary Gala at the Royal Albert Hall. He recorded his debut CD with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Kirill Karabits for Resonus Classics in May 2026.
Alongside his performing career, he is completing a part-time master’s in performance science at the Royal College of Music. Roman reviously studied at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester before completing his bachelor’s at the Royal Academy of Music with Mateja Marinkovic and So-Ock Kim. He has worked closely with members of the Doric Quartet and London Haydn String Quartet, and with artists including Lawrence Power, Ning Feng, Philippe Graffin, Kolja Blacher, Kathryn Stott, and Sophia Rahman.
